RPZ Valves Page 1
The RPZ (reduced pressure zone valve) backflow valve is relatively new to the U.K. and is used to protect against fluid risk 4 applications. Category 4 fluids include toxic, substances such as chemicals, carcinogenic substances or pesticides. It is designed for use in commercial and industrial applications to avoid back siphonage and pollution of the potable water distribution system. Backflow arising from connections made between potable and non-potable water supplies can constitute a serious public health risk, RPZ valves provide protection against this risk. Under the Water Industry Act (1991) a water company must supply a wholesome water supply. It is however the property owners responsibility to ensure that every water system in the premises contains an adequate device to prevent back flow of fluid between potable and non-potable supplies.
